A crew member of a scallop dredger whose hand got trapped in a winch was airlifted to hospital this morning.

The alarm was raised just after 10am, when the accident happened on board the fishing boat from Northern Ireland when it was just off Port St Mary. The boat made for Port St Mary harbour.

A rescue helicopter was scrambled from RAF Valley, it landed at Kallow Point and the casualty was taken by pick-up truck from the boat, now moored in the harbour, to the helicopter and then airlifted to Noble’s Hospital, where he arrived at around 10.45am.
