Inquests have opened into the death of a local rider in the Pre-TT Classic and two visiting bike fans.

Dean Martin, 58, died at the scene of an accident at the Billown Dip during the 850cc classic practice on the evening of Riday May 28.

A long-time competitor on the Billown Course on classic and modern machines, Mr Martin was a self-employed communications consultant and lived in Mount Murray, Santon.

He leaves his partner of 11 and half years Hilary who was present at the opening of the inquest. She told Coroner John Needham that her partner had been just a few hours off his 59th birthday.

A post mortem concluded that Mr Martin died of massive blunt force trauma injuries. The inquest was adjourned for a date to be fixed.

Inquests have also been opened into the deaths of two visiting bikers.

Shaun Watkinson, 55, of Westhoughton, Bolton, died in Noble’s Hospital on June 2 following a high speed collision in the vicinity of the 26th Milestone on the A18 Mountain Road.

He died as a result of multiple internal injuries after colliding at 100mph into the back of a car. The Coroner asked for condolences to be passed on to his family. Proceedings were adjourned to a date to be fixed as was the inquest into the death of managing director Frank Robinson, 67, of Hull, who died of chest injuries in Noble’s following a collision at Ballaleece Bridge on June 3.
