Island enthralled by meteor shower

Stargazers caught sight of hundreds of shooting stars in the night skies above the Isle of Man last night as the annual Perseid meteor shower peaked.

Reader Dave Corkish shared two of his pictures with us, while Bill Dale caught the two others below in Andreas.

The natural fireworks display coincided with a new moon for the first time since 2007 - giving an unparalleled view for amateur astronomers.
