Today is the deadline for candidates to confirm their intention to stand in the forthcoming local authority elections.

Nomination papers must be submitted by 5pm.

These will be checked by local authorities and it will become clear later this week which districts and wards will return members unopposed and which ones will go to the polls on Thursday, April 28.

A total of 150 commissioners and councillors are needed to serve 22 different town, village, district and parish authorities.

Nomination papers and guidance for prospective candidates is available from local authority clerks.

A full list of clerks and their contact addresses is available on the government website and via Facebook.
