At a public meeting hosted by Liberal Vannin last week, the issue of the sewage charge, or toilet tax, was discussed at length.

The meeting was attended by MHKs and commissioners and the vote at the end of the discussion was unanimous in that this was an unfair charge and that, as it was an essential service, it should be funded by central government.

Pat Ayres, the vice chairman, said: ‘Our topic for discussion next month will be equally topical and I hope that we have even more attending. The more wide ranging the views and suggestions the better and all will be welcome.’
