International yoga teacher Jeanne Heileman will be teaching an intense yoga weekend at The Studio, Glen Falcon Road in Douglas, at the invitation of local yoga practitioner Esther Jones.
Jeanne – who has been practising and teaching ashtanga, iyengar, anusara and vini yoga for 28 years – began studying with ParaYoga founder Rod Stryker in 1999 and has subsequently become a senior instructor for YogaWorks in Los Angeles.
When she’s not teaching privately or leading classes, she travels around the globe lecturing and taking workshops as well as training other teachers.
Esther Jones met Jeanne when she was taking part in a training course taught by Rod Stryker in London in 2007 where Jeanne was his assistant - and Esther is delighted to welcome her to the Isle of Man.
She said: ‘Although there are many people teaching and practising yoga in the Isle of Man, this is a unique opportunity to meet and learn from a true expert.
‘The focus of the weekend is on the three lower energy centres – Chakras – and the workshops promise to cleanse, clear and ignite both body and mind.’
Although each workshop can be done individually, Jeanne and Esther recommend students take part in all three if they can, in order to get the full benefit.
Saturday morning begins with ‘The Radiance of Fire: A Core-centred Practice’ – three hours of energetic yoga to strengthen and stretch the torso while learning how to light and contain what the call ‘your inner fire’.
This, Jeanne promises, will leave students feeling peacefully powerful and sitting taller.
Later the same day ‘Hip Openers for Everyone’ will concentrate on hip movements and how students can practise yoga poses, which heat and stretch muscles and joints, including long deep stretches to unlock any stiffness, bringing attention to the Chakras (energy centres) which may be blocking movement and emotions.
The final workshop is ‘Twist and Cleanse’ on Sunday, and is a three-hour workshop that will open with breathing techniques to allow students to twist deeply, concentrating on cleansing the inner organs and, by doing that, improve lung capacity. This workshop – and the weekend - ends with Paranyama techniques and Tantric meditation.
To book a place (£40 per individual workshop, £105 for all three) contact Esther on 416654 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
‘Jeanne’s workshops sell out around the world,’ says Esther. ‘We’re expecting a lot of interest here too. I am so pleased Jeanne has been able to fit the Isle of Man into her very busy schedule, and I’m sure anyone who would like to improve and expand their own yoga practice will benefit from her teachings.’
