The Manannan has left Liverpool and is on her way to Douglas.

The Steam Packet’s fastcraft’s scheduled 8.30pm sailing from Liverpool was cancelled last night, leaving passengers frustrated.

The company blamed a ‘technical problem’ with one of Manannan’s enginesm.

Passengers say they waited on board until about 10.45pm or later last night when they then were offered a choice of overnight accommodation or limited availability on the overnight Heysham sailing.

Specialist engineers worked on the vessel in Liverpool this morning and she left soon after midday.

In order to keep the majority of traffic moving, the Belfast sailing today has been cancelled and will be ‘amalgamated’ with the Dublin sailing tomorrow.

Ben-my-Chree’s overnight sailing from Heysham was delayed to assist with transfers and returns to her normal schedule this morning.

The setback comes during one of the busiest times of the year for the company, during the Festival of Motorcycling.

It also comes as the ship is running on reduced problems because of the failure of a crankshaft.
