Manx Grand Prix crash claims two lives

IT has been confirmed that two riders died in the crash during the second lap of the Junior Manx Grand Prix this morning.

The two men are Jamie Adam, 28, a serving Royal Navy officer from Prestwick in Scotland, and Chris Bradshaw, 39, a police traffic officer from Tamworth in the West Midlands.

Both were involved in an accident at Alpine Cottage, near Ballaugh, on the second lap.

The race was red-flagged. Mr Bradshaw was airlifted to hospital but was pronounced dead at Noble's Hospital. The air med team went to Mr Adam's assistance, but he was declared dead at the scene.

The incident has been reported to the coroner of inquests.

Today's racing schedule was abandoned and it is expected to take place tomorrow.

Mr Bradshaw first competed in the Isle of Man in 2004 and finished 37th in last year's Senior MGP. Mr Adam first competed in 2009, finishing ninth in the Newcomers' Race and 27th in the Senior MGP.

Monday's MGP Newcomers' A winner Tim Venables crashed at Greeba Castle on lap one and is believed to be in a critical condition.

TEAM KAKA RACING UK & USA

Because of the nature of racing and his job I hadn't seen Jamie for a while.I last saw Jamie at Donington in 2008 when he pestered me to put some Royal Navy stickers on my bike to show some solidarity with the our men in the forces. By return he gave me a bunch of RN souvenirs - some of which I still have including a well-worn, but much loved baseball cap.

For some reason, the other day when I was away in the Highlands on my bike and at around the time of his loss, he popped into my mind's eye and I found myself thinking about the hideous paintjob he inflicted upon his bike...I chuckled at the thought. Coincidence? I don't know.

A friend of mine used to come to race meetings to help. Whenever he came near she used to go weak at the knees. She was infatuated with Jamie and I used to take the mickey out of her. I used to egg her on to ask him out, but she never did and never will now. For his part, I don't think Jamie ever had a clue that she had the hots for him.

I am gutted to hear of Jamie's loss. The race paddock will be poorer without him and my life was better for having known him.

RIP. Miss you friend and fellow racer.

NW

I only knew you for a short time during the MGP but I will never forget the 'Scottish Night'. You and Colin made us all laugh so much. God Bless You.
