Manx teenager is Miss Liverpool
A MANX girl has won this year's Miss Liverpool beauty contest and a place in the final of the Miss England pageant.
Professional model Amy Jackson, who was born here and lived in Colby until her family moved to Liverpool when she was four, said she was stunned to be in the running for the national title.
The 18-year-old, 5ft 7ins brunette, who often visits the Isle of Man, plans to talk about the Isle of Man to contestants and judges at the Miss England final in London in August.
She said: 'I'm so excited about it. It's my dream to represent Liverpool in the Miss England final, and of course I'll be representing the Isle of Man too.
'I've not allowed myself to think about winning the contest – I'm just happy to be there.'
Amy, of Croxteth Park, was scouted by a modelling agency at the age of 16.
She said: 'I went to sixth form college for a couple of weeks but I stopped because I was getting lots of modelling work. It was what I really wanted to do.'
In the last two years, she has travelled across Europe, America and Asia for fashion and lingerie photoshoots.
'It's a chaotic, non-stop job but I love it,' she said. 'I love travelling and meeting new people. A lot of people haven't heard about the Isle of Man but they're always interested to learn.'
Shortly after signing with the modelling agency, she won the Miss Teen World pageant in 2008.
She said: 'The day I found out I'd won was the same day I got my GCSE results. It was just as well I'd got good grades or that would have spoiled the celebrations.'
Amy planned to compete for the Miss Liverpool title last year, but she had to put that plan on hold when she was asked to audition for a leading role in Bollywood movie Madrasapattinam, due to be released next month.
She spent six months shooting in India and she wants to act now.
She said: 'The filming wasn't as glamourous as I'd expected, but I like the finished product. Acting was something I wanted to get into later in life but it just found me.'
Amy hopes that, whether she wins Miss England or not, she will be able to use the opportunity to generate publicity and funds for Riding for the Disabled, a charity she has already helped raise thousands of pounds for.
She is hoping to hold a fashion show next month with one of the organisers of the Miss Liverpool contest, with the proceeds going to the charity.
The experience should come in handy as part of her Miss Liverpool prize is to design her own evening gown for the Miss England final.
