A former Douglas Corporation transport bus made a return trip to the island recently as part of celebrations marking 100 years of the capital’s motor bus service.
The bus, a 1950 Leyland Comet single decker, was greeted on its arrival from Birkenhead by Cllr Stan Cain and his wife Sheila, along with Chris Machin, chairman of the Manx Transport Trust.
As part of the centenary celebrations, the trust hopes many old Douglas buses will take part in the Douglas Carnival procession in July. The bus will be kept at the bus museum in Jurby during its stay in the island. The bus is in full Douglas Corporation livery. Roger Carey from the trust said: ‘It was a rare vehicle even when it was new – it is almost unique today.’
