Marshals rallying cry goes out

A RALLYING cry has gone out to anyone who might want to be a marshal at one of the island’s biggest motorsport events.

Entering what will be its 49th year, Rally Isle of Man, powered by Microgaming, will take place from September 20 to 22.

The event will open at 7pm on the Thursday night with a thrilling spectator-orientated stage along Harris Promenade, Douglas. Friday’s action will culminate with four exciting night stages centred around Castletown, with Saturday seeing the crews tackle 26 stages before the event comes to a close.

David Thompson, chief marshal, said: ‘Nothing brings you closer to the action than when you are a marshal. Witness first-hand the thrills and spills of this magnificent event which will see more than 70 crews challenging some of the toughest stages in the British Isles.

‘We value any time you can lend us whether it be a morning, an afternoon or evening, to help ensure this event is well and truly placed back on the rally calendar.’

Anyone interested should contact Rally Isle of Man on 852440 or call into Rally Isle of Man headquarters based at 10a Tromode Industrial Estate, Douglas, before September 16.

Alternatively, attend a signing on session being held in the week leading up to the event:

• The Swan Hotel, Ramsey Sept 17, 7pm to 9pm

• TT Grandstand, September 17, 9am to 5pm, September 18, 5pm to 7pm, and September 19, 5pm to 7pm.
