TWO St Johns women are heading to Edinburgh next month to take part in a sponsored walk with a difference.
Neighbours Tracy Scaife, 46, and Lesley McPherson, 63, will join more than 10,000 others raising money for breast cancer charities at the Moon Walk, an overnight 26.2 mile trek through the city on June 9.
Tracey explained her reasons for wanting to take part: ‘I know quite a few people who have had breast cancer, and I just wanted to do something.’
And Lesley has previous Moon Walk experience. ‘I went along when my daughters did the London one. I was up all night volunteering, and they really enjoyed it,’ she said.
‘Apparently the atmosphere is absolutely amazing, people come out of their houses and cheer you on,’ added Tracy, who says she and Lesley are aiming to get round the course within eight hours.
Aside from working hard for a good cause, training has had other benefits too. ‘Through walking and going to the gym I’ve lost a stone and a half!’ said Tracey. ‘It’s been hard to get here, but I think we’re ready. We can do it.’
