A NEW site has been earmarked for a car park at Silverdale Glen in a field directly off the A3 Ballamodha Road.
Douglas East MHK Brenda Cannell MHK has questioned Chief Minister Tony Brown on why proposals to improve car parking at the Malew site were proceeding when Treasury had refused to fund the initial scheme.
In Tynwald on Tuesday, Mr Brown said the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture had identified a site it deemed to be suitable for a car park.
‘It would require a land exchange with a parcel of land already under the department’s ownership and financial investment to provide the appropriate facilities,’ he said.
He said following a meeting of the Council of Ministers on June 30 it had been agreed the issue would now be subject to discussions between DEFA and the Treasury over the cost of the project.
He said Treasury refused the initial scheme because the cost was ‘well in excess’ of the valuation of the land.
