Chairman of Onchan Commissioners, Rob Callister, has hit out at Department of Social Care minister, Chris Robertshaw over housing authority plans.
In an open letter to Mr Robertshaw, Mr Callister criticised the minister for not revealing what the government’s plans are for individual local housing authorities with larger regional authorities set to replace them.
At an Onchan Commmissioners meeting last night Mr Callister said: ‘It’s clear Mr Robertshaw has misled the local authorities. My letter was well received. MHK’s are standing up and looking at this.
‘He is trying to bring the biggest change in 20 years and will present it to Tynwald on November 7, then give us only seven days to respond. That is not consultation.
‘We don’t know what Mr Robertshaw is doing, why is he sitting on this for an extra month and not giving us extra time to look at it,’ he added.
Mr Callister received the board’s backing over the letter at last night’s meeting though commissioner Robin Turton said: ‘The letter was premature of the meeting and could have gone before us first.’
Mr Callister said: ‘It was what I felt in my heart. Chris Robertshaw is not playing fair with local housing authorities. Seven days involving the housing authorities is not consultation. We have six weeks to save localised housing.’
