Onchan rate are to rise

Ratepayers in Onchan are to pay 5.45 per cent more to the local authority.

Last night the district commissioners set the new rate at 290p in the pound. That is an increase over last year of 15p (5.45 per cent).

Other island authorities have yet to set a rate for the forthcoming financial year.

The island’s rate of inflation, measured by the Retail Prices Index, currently stands at 2.9 per cent.
