OUR MAN IN SPACE

A MANXMAN living in Texas has been appointed 'our man in space' in the first assignment of its kind anywhere in the world.

Taking up a somewhat unusual role, Chris Stott, the president and chief executive of Onchan-based company ManSat, has been named as the Island's honorary representative to the space community.

The appointment was made by Chief Minister Richard Corkill during a visit to the Island by Mr Stott last week. It's believed the Isle of Man is the first country to formally appoint a representative to the space community.

Mr Stott, 34, becomes our third overseas representative, alongside Alan Cannell in Brazil and Susan Kelly-McCarthy in Washington.

The role, which is unpaid, is to be a 'friend on the ground' for visiting Manx people and to help promote awareness of the Island both culturally and commercially.
