Entries for next year’s annual Parish Walk are now open.
The 2015 Manx Telecom-sponsored event will take place on Saturday, June 20, starting as usual from the NSC in Douglas, and the final entries must be in by May 10.
Walkers who complete the full distance of 85 miles in under 24 hours, taking in all of the island’s 17 parishes, will receive a certificate.
The entry fee is £30 for those entering before the end of January 2015. Entries completed before the end of March cost £35 and after that cost the full £40. Entrants who are also Manx Telecom customers receive a £5 discount.
All entries must be completed on line at www.parishwalk.com
Awards will be given to corporate teams of four with the winning team covering the highest aggregate mileage between the four walkers.
There will also be an Overall Team prize for teams of four. Prizes will be awarded in the Young Walkers’ category for entrants aged 18 to 21 for the first man and first woman to complete the 32.5 miles to Peel. There is also a competition for teams of three in the same age group.
The 2013 walk marked the centenary of the event in its current form. Richard Gerrard was the winner of the walk last year with the aptly named David Walker second and Richard Wild finishing third. Women’s winner was Janette Morgan, ahead of Janice Quirk and Joanne Cubbon. Under-21 winners were Alex Eaton and Danielle Oates. There were 184 finishers.
