The 2013 Tourism Awards were announced this week and showcased the growing increase in quality offered by businesses in the local visitor economy.

What the government calls the ‘visitor economy’ in the Isle of Man currently provides work for nearly 1,500 people and local visitor spend was over £100M in 2012.

The full list of 2013 Tourism Award nominees and winners is as follows:

Best Customer Service: Isle of Man Golf Tours, winner; William Carroll, Groudle Glen Cottages (runner up); Isle of Man Event Services Ltd (Finalist)

Best Eating Out Experience: The Creek Inn, Peel, winner; Jak’s Bar and Steakhouse, finalist; Patchwork Café, Port St Mary, runner Up.

Best Hotel Accommodation: The Welbeck Hotel, Douglas, winner; Rutland Hotel, finalist; Ramsey Park Hotel, Ramsey, runner-up.

Best Guest Accommodation: The Arches, Port Erin, winner; Raymond’s, Douglas, finalist; Croit-ny-Baie. Bride, runner-up.

Best Self-Catering: Beach Cottage, Maughold, winner; Kionslieu Farm Cottages, Foxdale, finalist; Laxey Harbour Chalets, Old Laxey, runner-up.

Best Campsite: Saba’s Glen Yurt Eco Campsite, Union Mills, winner; Venture Centre - North, finalist; Laxey Campsite, runner-up.

Best Attraction: Groudle Glen Railway, winner; Miltown, Ramsey, finalist; Isle of Man Trike Tours, runner-up.

Best Town/Village: Peel, winner; Port Erin, finalist; Castletown, runner-up.

Event of the Year: MCC Vintage Motorcycle Club Jurby.

Special Recognition Award: Manx National Heritage.
