Peel wants sewage treatment

WE are keen to work with the residents and businesses of Peel over plans for a new sewage treatment plant for the town.

That was the message from Graham Cregeen MHK, chairman of the Water and Sewerage Authority who was quizzed in Tynwald over the proposals for a new regional sewage treatment facility.

Mr Cregeen said there would be a full consultation exercise with residents and businesses, in conjunction with the commissioners and the town’s MHK.

He said that once a feasibility study for a sewage treatment works had been carried out, there would be a further consultation exercise once the outline design and environment assessment had been undertaken.

‘The Authority is keen to work with the people of Peel to provide a better environment for residents and business alike,’ said Mr Cregeen.

He said the authority had been requested by Peel Town Commissioners to a meeting to discuss bringing sewage treatment works to the town ‘as a priority’.

David Quirk (Onchan) asked if the Commissioners had been positive on the way forward.

Mr Cregeen replied that they had agreed the previous board ‘had made errors’. He said the majority of the board had requested the meeting and there was only one member who was not supportive.

‘The people in Peel want sewage treatment,’ he said.
