The planned closure of the Crown post offices in Douglas and Ramsey is to be put on hold for three months following an emergency debate in the House of Keys today.

Lib Van leader Kate Beecroft tabled a motion of urgent public importance calling for the planned closures to be postponed for three months while. alternative options are considered.
She said: ‘Too much has happened behind closed doors.’
Post Office chairman Graham Cregeen proposed an amendment supporting the postponement to permit affected staff and local authorities to discuss proposals and for these to be considered by the Post Office.
But he said he didnt believe there was another way of reducing operating costs ‘without severely curtailing services around the island.’
Brenda Cannell (Douglas East) said: ‘This whole affair has been à fiasco from start to finish.’
Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson opposed the motion saying it vould give false hope to staff.
The motion, as amended, carried 19 votes in favour, five against.
