The post boxes outside the main post office in Douglas town centre will be out of action for four weeks from today (Monday).
They won’t be used while regeneration work is carried out on Regent Street by the Department of Infrastructure.
Marty Quine, the Post Office’s general manager for the retail network, said: ‘While a new ramp is being constructed and new paving in the immediate area being laid, the post boxes outside Regent Street post office will be inaccessible.
‘However, we will be providing customers with a temporary service for posting letters by way of a converted post van which will be located close to the office opposite the Isle of Man Bank ATM machines. Clear signage will direct customers to this temporary and novel facility.’
He added: ‘During the works public access to the post office will be from the Isle of Man Bank side only where there will be a temporary ramp installed over the new steps providing easy access for all customers. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but hope customers will find the alternative arrangements satisfactory while this regeneration work is undertaken.’
The new ramp and access to the post boxes is due to be reinstated early November.
