POSTIES' SUSPICION OVER GPS INTRUSION
POST unions have been angered over the trial use of global positioning systems in vehicles.
Communication Workers' Union assistant secretary Terry Pullinger said his members were unhappy.
'Our members are both concerned and suspicious as to why the business has chosen to invest in this technology without detailed consultation with the CWU,' he said.
Post Office chief executive Bill Chacksfield said the system was not a 'spy in the cab' but merely a means of improving efficiency.
'Any reaction to this is a bit premature,' he said. 'We have just started the trial.
'We are assessing what use it can have in planning our deliveries.
'The Isle of Man is a growing economy and lots of houses are being built.
'We have to change our delivery routes from time to time and we are looking to see if this is a more efficient way of planning than our usual way of doing it with a stopwatch.'
