Power restored to homes

Have your say

POWER had been restored to all but 103 homes this morning.

And MEA bosses say they are aiming to have all homes reconnected by tonight.

MEA chief executive Phil King said that following a massive effort by the authority’s linesmen with the support of Department of Infrastructure operations division gangs, power has been restored to Cronk-y-Voddy which had been cut off for days.

He said the remaining areas to be prioritised were the Ballaugh Curraghs and Baldwin but there were isolated properties still without power in Abbeylands, Foxdale, Greeba, Peel, St John’s and Dalby.

Met Office forecasters say the weekend white-out was the worst snow event since 1963.

Heavy snowfall and high winds affected some 1,000 homes.

Farmers have been badly hit, with reports of heavy losses of livestock.

Volunteers were due to meet up at the Ramsey hairpin at 10am today to uncover more livestock from snowbound fields.
