Press Complaints Commission backs IoM Newspapers

THE Press Complaints Commission has ruled that Isle of Man Newspapers did not breach its code of conduct over coverage of the fluoridation debate.

Graham Joughin, of Glen Elfin Road, Ramsey, complained to the commission about an article containing responses by public health consultant Dr Paul Emerson to a series of questions about the merit of introducing fluoride to the water supply.

But, in its decision, the commission ruled that none of the points raised by Mr Joughin established factual inaccuracies.

It concluded the newspaper was entitled to publish the personally held views of a named source in the manner which it had.

It found that readers would not be misled into believing there was no other position on the issue or that Dr Emerson's views would not be challenged by others.
