Rain puts damper on Tynwald Day

ARMED with waterproofs and umbrellas to fend off the rain, a brave crowd gathered at St John’s for the Tynwald Day celebrations today.

There were plenty of spaces free in the stands while the ceremony was performed.

But those who did attend witnessed Lieutenant Governor Adam Wood’s first appearance at the national day celebrations, and the last for retiring Tynwald president Noel Cringle.

And they also had the chance to see crew members from Space Shuttle Discovery, including astronaut Nicole Stott, who were guests of honour.

All the acts passed in the last 12 months were promulgated in both English and Manx.

And several petitions for redress of grievance were presented by members of the public.
