Refuse workers are being subjected to abuse.
Ramsey Commissioners discussed the matter after reports received from the workers indicate that the incidents generally centre around motorists being inconvenienced by the crew carrying out their duties.
One recent altercation resulted in the refuse vehicle driver reporting the matter to the police such was the level of intimidation.
Chief technical officer to the commissioners, Steve Harrison, said: ‘The refuse crew carry out a difficult job, often in adverse weather conditions and, on occasions, it is not possible to park the vehicle in such a position as to allow other vehicles to pass while they carry out their duties.
‘Generally it is during these times that other drivers become verbally abusive and can be confrontational.
‘The crew has been advised to note relevant details when such instances occur in future’.
