PRACTICES for this year’s Manx Grand Prix are now just a few days away and organisers have reminded the public about revised road closure times around the Mountain Course.
Roads will close at 5pm both this Saturday (August 20) and the following Saturday, August 27. On the opening practice night, this is to accommodate the accompanied newcomers’ laps more easily.
The revised time on August 27 was necessary in order to run the Newcomers’ race that evening, as well as accommodating final practices for the other classes. This came about because new regulations from the ACU (the controlling body) dictate newcomers must now race separately.
Club chairman Bill Bennett said: ‘We want to thank the island’s residents for their positive response to the club’s request.’
For practice sessions from August 22-26, roads will close at 6pm and reopen by 9pm.
On race days they will close at 9.30am and reopen no later than 9pm. On Wednesday, August 31, and Friday, September 2, roads will reopen for just one hour between 5pm and 6pm accommodate rush-hour traffic. Postponed races may be held the following day, but with roads closing at an 11.30am.
