SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE: Gary Roberts new Chief Constable of IOM.
A MANX police officer with a 28 year career in the island force has been named as the new Chief Constable.
Douglas-born Gary Roberts, 49, a married father-of-two from Castletown, will take over from Mike Langdon when the current Chief Constable retires at the end of the year.
Mr Roberts said: ‘This is a deeply humbling moment for me. I am proud and privileged to be able to serve my community.’

Mr Roberts joined the Manx force in 1984 and worked as a Constable in Douglas, Onchan and then the CID before being promoted to Detective Sergeant in the Fraud Squad in 1996. He was promoted to Inspector in 1999, Superintendent in 2005 and became Deputy Chief Constable in January 2008. He was the only Manx officer out one of nine candidates for the Chief Constable’s job.
