Kayaker George Shaw took advantage of the recent fine weather to bag another kayaking record.
Noting the good sea conditions – not to mention sunshine – he set out with his new Cadence kayak from Peel a little after 8am.
‘By the time I reached Douglas I knew that a good time could be done for a complete circumnavigation,’ he said.
Spurred on by the achievement of Kim Tastagh who recently circumnavigated the island, he pressed on to complete the trip.
‘Kim managed to complete the circuit in 13 hours and seven minutes, so I carried on, finally reaching Peel at 7.55pm after enduring constant head winds from Point of Ayre to Peel,’ he said.
‘Once I had worked out the times and checked the GPS I found I had managed to complete the circumnavigation in 11 hours 43 mins beating the previous record held by John Willacy of 12 hours 37 minutes. This was the fastest time ever in any class of kayak.’
