Poster discovered under lino

This classic 1940s beach poster is one of a collection recently discovered under the lino floor covering of a house in Edinburgh.

The lucky finder had bought the house to renovate and while tearing up the floor luckily realised what the paper lining the floor covering actually was.

The poster, with an estimated value of £1,000 to £1,500, will be auction online at onslows.co.uk on December 20.

The poster depicts a bathing girl jumping with beach ball in Douglas.

The artist Chas Pears worked for the London Midland and Scottish and London and North Eastern Railways specialising particularly in striking bathing scenes, the colourful posters often depicting the artist himself as an onlooker wearing a boater and Pince-Nez.
