Self-service machines on trial at Post Office

TWO self-service machines on trial at the Regent Street post office in Douglas will cut significantly queueing times and give customers a choice of service, according to Post Office chiefs.

The Pay & Post machines were introduced after a survey found customers wanted to see a reduction in queueing times, quicker transactions and self-service weighing positions.

General manager retail network Marty Quine said: 'I am sure they will find the touch screen operation very simple and quick and will enjoy the option to use either the kiosk or traditional counter clerk service.'

He said customers could use the machines to weigh, stamp and pay for packages 'quickly and efficiently', as well as pay electricity, gas or phone bills and government rates.

Dedicated postal kiosk host Peggy Irving will help customers.

Anyone who completes an exit poll with on the machines will be entered into a prize draw for a Post Office Yearbook 2010.

Post Office chiefs have previously said it was too early to comment on whether the introduction of the machines could lead to job losses.

If you want to cut significantly queueing times ban all OLD people and DHSS losers from Post Office between 11am and 2 pm. WE have all been caught out by them - held up for hours because they fancy a chat and have nothing better to do. Well, enough is enough. Those that work are only able to attend a post office during lunchtime. Old people can access a Post Office at any time during the day so there is NO NEED whatsoever for them to be there during the short time available to us. For goodness sake, they have ALL DAY, ALL WEEK basically they can get there whenever they want!!! BAN THEM, BAN THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!

In reply to 'K' who is cowardly enough not to put his/her full name following comments about queuing at the post office, I would just say that he should remember his/her comment when he/she reaches old age. It might come back to haunt him/her!! It seems that respect for our elders is a thing of the past, and life is to be led at such a pace that the older members of the community are pushed out of the way in the rush. If people stopped for a moment they would find out that these 'old nuisances' that 'should be banned' have much to offer ikn experience and knowledge. Old age doesn't mean useless!!
