SOLWAY HARVESTER INQUEST LATEST
SOLWAY Harvester-owner Richard Gidney has been given one last chance to give evidence at the inquest into the deaths of the vessel's seven crew.
Mr Gidney has said he won't come to the Island for the inquest and has been offered the chance to give evidence on commission or by video link.
The inquest opened after the Manx Government paid 1million to recover the bodies and
the vessel from the seabed, but was adjourned for legal proceedings.
When the inquest resumed on Thursday Coroner Michael Moyle raised concern about the lack of safety regulations in place seven years ago when the vessel sank 11 miles off the Island's coast.
Recommendations in a Marine Accident Investigation Branch report into the tragedy have been adopted, but Mr Moyle said that would be scant comfort to the families of those who died.
Adjourning the proceedings to a date to be fixed Mr Moyle said it wasn't too late for Mr Gidney to give evidence.
