New Douglas mayor Stan Cain officially took up his post at a ceremony at the town hall this week.
Lady mayoress is Mr Cain’s wife Sheila and deputy mayor this year is John Joughin, whose wife Catherine will be deputy mayoress.
The Reverend John Coldwell is to be the mayor’s chaplain for the year.
Council Leader David Christian proposed a vote of thanks to former mayor Carol Malarkey who will return to her former role on the housing and property committee. He also noted the business lunch she had hosted was one of the best attended for a number of years.
Councillor Christian said Councillor Malarkey had held some novel fundraising events which had amassed £15,000 to be divided between her chosen charities for the year which were Tabitha’s Trust, Victim Support, the Manx Workshop for the Disabled and Junior Achievement Isle of Man.
This year’s mayor’s charities are yet to be announced.
Councillor Cain invited everyone to attend the Civic Sunday service at St George’s Church on June 8 and thanked Councillor Malarkey for her services last year.
