A teenager died in the early hours of this morning in a road accident.

It happened soon after midnight on the Foxdale Road neear its junction with Archallagan Plantatation.

The collision involved a white Renault Clio three-door hatchback, which was travelling from the Eairy, towards The Braaid.

There were four occupants in the vehicle. One passenger, a youth believed to be 17 years old, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The driver and the other two passengers were removed to Noble’s Hospital, where they have been detained for treatment, one in the intensive treatment unit.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of having caused death by dangerous driving.

Inspector Derek Flint, the senior investigating officer, said: ‘This was a challenging scene to deal with for all the emergency services, all who stepped up to the bar to professionally deal with the difficult issues confronting them.

‘All the next of kin have been informed, and over the coming days we will be working to establish precisely what led to this tragic event.

‘Although only one vehicle is believed to have been involved at this time, it is important we establish clearly that this was the case.

‘If anyone was driving on that road around the time of the collision, I’d compel them to get in touch with us at headquarters and speak to the investigation team. We are particularly interested in the movements of the Clio, which was travelling from the Eairy end towards the Braaid. We can be contacted via 631212.’
