MANX Telecom will sponsor Autism In Mann’s charity telephone helpline for the next year.
The line is operated from 9am to 6pm seven days a week and provides a vital link for the group which offers help and advice to the parents and carers of anyone with autism.
Secretary of the charity Anita Ash explained: ‘Manx Telecom approached us with the kind offer of covering the cost of our monthly contract for the mobile phone we use for the helpline for the next 12 months.’
Breda Craine, Autism in Mann chairman, welcomed news of the sponsorship: ‘We are entering our 20th year this year and we are delighted at the thoughtfulness of Manx Telecom.’
On the importance on the helpline she added: ‘People call needing information, or to just talk to someone who understands what it’s like for a family caring for someone with autism. We are a support group run by parents for parents and so it is always a parent who answers the phone.’
Andrew Honour, MT commercial manager, said: ‘We are delighted to support Autism In Mann and make a contribution to helping the charity continue its good work.’
Formed in 1992, the registered charity aims to provide support for carers and promotes understanding of autistic spectrum disorder. The Autism In Mann helpline number is 480167.
