Talk about that sinking feeling!

A new piece of equipment – worth £100,000 – designed to launch boats for the airport’s fire rescue service sank on its trial run last week.

Airport director Ann Reynolds explained the fire service was testing out the equipment, designed to launch boats to go to the aid of an incident in which planes – for whatever reason – end up in the sea.

‘They [the fire service employees] have had the relevant training, something did not go right on the day. In all things lessons can be learned. I’m just happy that no one got hurt, it will be investigated what went wrong and see what lessons can be learned.’

The equipment was retrieved after three hours.
