Voice announcements to help the disabled and impaired will be trialled on some of the island’s double decker bus services.

The four-week trial of the new announcement system will take place on some of the 3 and 3A double decker services between Ramsey and Douglas.

The system is aimed at enhancing the bus service for the visually impaired and hard of hearing as well as for all passengers during foggy or dark conditions.

The announcements will also be accompanied by a rolling LED text screen which will show the name of the location of the bus’s next stop.

Alf Lloyd, head of operations at Bus Vannin, said: ‘We would like feedback and comments from passengers as we will be looking to roll out the system permanently, initially on double deckers on main routes to the north, south and west of the island, and potentially on all buses in the longer term.’

Feedback on the voice announcement system can be given by calling 662525 or emailing publictransport@gov.im
