It will be a dream come true for two visiting bikers when they tie the knot at the Civil Registry in Douglas today (Thursday).

TT fans Philip Nelms and Lorraine Graves, of Clapham, in Bedford, were originally going to have just five guests at the service and no reception.

But after word spread of their plans they have been inundated with offers for everything from a reception venue and entertainment to a wedding car and driver.

Philip has been coming to the TT since 1992 and admitted he has talked about getting married in the island for many years: ‘We both love the Isle of Man so it seemed the right thing. It’s the next best thing to moving over at the moment.’

Philip, who will be wearing his leathers, said: ‘It was only going to be five people originally. It has snowballed since we arrived.

‘We arrived early so that Race Week would be our honeymoon. We met a lot of people through Douglas Snooker Club and a TT Trophy Facebook group and when they asked why we were here early we told them.’

Sue France, of Douglas Snooker Club, has the role of matron of honour, while her husband Graham will be driving Lorraine in his Jeep.

Moddey Dhoo Motorcycle Club members will be lined up outside the Civil Registry – and all bikers are invited to attend.’

In the evening, the Trevelyan Hotel, in Queens Promenade, Douglas – where the couple have always stayed – is laying on a buffet and karaoke.

And in fact hotel director Delia McGuire will be a witness at the wedding.
