VAGABONDS Rugby Club’s first ever Beer and Cider Festival over the weekend was successful enough to make it the first of many.

More than 20 guest ales were brought in for the two-day event, which was opened by Douglas West MHK Geoff Corkish at Vagabonds’ clubhouse at Ballafletcher in Braddan.

Club chairman Noel O’Connor said: ‘It was brilliant, better than we were expecting from a standing start and clashing with the Southern Show. It came about because the guys at their club enjoy their beer, it was a shot in the dark to see how it’d go. He added: ‘It was fantastic for us and great to have Geoff there, and we had great help from Heron and Brearley. We’ll definitely do it bigger and better next year know we know what we can do.’

Live music included saxophonist Jerry Carter’s jazz band, while there was touch-rugby on Sunday, part of a summer series of tournaments around the island.
