Bad weather forced a change of venue for Burma Star veterans commemorating the 69th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War with victory over Japan.

Sunday’s service was due to be held by the memorial in St John’s Arboretum but it was switched to the Royal Chapel instead.

The Burma Star Association meets every year to commemorate VJ Day. Sadly there are now only 10 surviving members. This year a new memorial bench was unveiled in the Arboretum to enable family and friends to sit and reflect in years to come. The service was conducted by BSA chaplain, Reverend Chris Belfield and the address given by Major General Sir Laurence New.
