DISRUPTION: Work begins again on roadworks on Main Road, Onchan, from Monday. It wil be totally closed from Sept 24

MOTORISTS driving through Onchan are likely to experience delays again from Monday.

The Department of Infrastructure will resume work in the village, which was stopped for the Manx Grand Prix.

Works will take place on Main Road, Onchan, between The Co-op (at the junction of Avondale Road) and the library being carried out under temporary traffic lights.

These works will include footway reconstruction and ducting installation for the new traffic lights and are expected to last for three weeks.

During this period pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses and properties.

Buses will operate from their usual stops.

Phase three works will begin on Monday, September 24, after the Isle of Man Rally, when Main Road will be closed to through traffic between Avondale Road and Summerhill Road roundabout, due to the narrow nature of this length of road.

This phase of work is expected to last for five weeks.

During this time buses will be re-routed via Avondale Road and Royal Avenue.

The remainder of this phase of the work will be being carried out under temporary traffic lights and it is planned to have the overall scheme completed by mid-December.

These works will slow traffic flow through Onchan Village and wherever practical drivers are advised to use King Edward Road or Mountain Road via Signpost Corner to help reduce delays.

The department is using high quality materials to complete this work and these should help enhance the environment through the village as well as replacing the worn out road. The new traffic signals will be vehicle activated and will result in improved traffic flow through the village and will also incorporate a new pedestrian crossing facility on Royal Avenue.

A DoI spokesman said: ‘The department would like to thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation.’
