The landmark Farmers’ Arms building in St John’s was demolished on Tuesday.
In a single day contractors removed the roofing slates and brought down the rear wall to clear the timber from inside the building on Station Road. The shell was then folded in upon itself.
Having stood empty for nearly 10 years, the Department of Infrastructure bought the site in 2011.
Last September the department received planning permission in principle to redevelop the site for residential purposes.
