Police are appealing for witnesses after a 70-year-old woman was bitten by a dog.

The incident happened near to the chip van parked on Victoria Road, in Castletown, at 7.45pm on Friday.

Police say the victim suffered ‘significant injury and upset’ when she was bitten by a dark slate-coloured Staffie type dog.

Officers say other members of the public would have witnessed the incident.

The dog, believed to be called Gina, is thought to have bolted towards the woman while on an extendable lead, and the female owner was unable to control it.

The victim was left with a large bite to her leg and needed hospital treatment.

Police want to trace the dog and its owner.

Anyone with information should contact Constable Kyle Sayers at police headquarters on 631212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
