Yachting images form focus of illustrated lecture
INTERNATIONALLY renowned yachting photographer Rick Tomlinson will be hosting an illustrated lecture at the Manx Museum on Wednesday.
He will be talking about his yachting photography which has taken him all over the world since he first set out in 1985 in the Whitbread Round the World Race aboard Simon Le Bon's yacht, Drum.
His photographs of that race were a huge success and his photography career has gone on to take him to many exotic and isolated corners of the globe.
Along with racing Rick also travels to numerous regattas around the world, usually chasing yachts from a helicopter or a fast craft and always on the lookout for a unique angle.
He has also expanded his skills to expeditions and project photography - to places including Chile, Alaska, the Caribbean, Africa, and his latest assignment the Antarctic - and completed assignments for the RNLI.
'I've had a passion for sailing ever since I was a child but my interest in photography came much later,' he said.
'My friend Nick Keig used to race the yacht the Three Legs of Man and one day these fantastic yachting photographers came aboard to take pictures.
'Well, I was inspired!
'Ever since then I have been consumed by the world of yachting photography.
'I feel so lucky because I genuinely love my job and to see my photographs displayed like this in the place I grew up is a very proud moment for me.'
Forty-six photographs of Rick's latest assignment to Antarctica are currently on display in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery at the Manx Museum and this lecture will give the public the opportunity to hear the stories behind these breathtaking images as well as seeing some of Rick's work from his other assignments.
The lecture is at the Manx Museum on Wednesday May 14 at 7pm - admission is free and all are welcome.
