LES Garrett is laying down the flag after 22 years.

Les, 78, of Gladstone Avenue, Ramsey, has been Standard Bearer for the Ramsey branch of the Royal Naval Association for all that time, representing the branch at Naval events on the island and across the water.

Secretary Edna Clarke said: ‘He has never let us down. He’s absolutely wonderful!’

At a buffet reception in the Masonic Hall, Ramsey, he was presented with a framed photograph of himself holding the standard at Jurby Church, along with a framed certificate of appreciation from Royal Naval Association headquarters.

His wife Brenda, children Sarah and Juan and grandchildren were also there.

Nigel Taylor is taking over as Standard Bearer.

The Royal Naval Association meets at the Masonic Hall on the first Friday of the month, except in January and June, at 8pm.

New members are welcome – people do not have to be ex-Navy, just interested in what the branch does.
