Chief minister pledges action on civil partnership bill

A CIVIL partnership bill will be brought before parliament in the next legislative year, Chief Minister Tony Brown told the House of Keys yesterday (Tuesday).

He said the bill would be introduced for its first reading in October this year.

Peter Karran (Lib Vannin, Onchan) asked if it would be better to bring forward the bill to the current legislative year to 'combat the bigotry against the Isle of Man'.

Mr Brown said this process of drafting and consulting on the bill meant it would be impossible to meet that deadline.
