The Isle of Man’s first ever Volunteers’ Week started on Saturday with a recruitment event in the Garden Room at the Sefton Hotel in Douglas.
The event attracted almost 500 people, who took the chance to meet representatives from 30 charitable and voluntary organisations.
The initiative is being led by Alison Lester, the volunteer service manager at Noble’s Hospital in Braddan.
Alison said: ‘This is our second annual volunteer recruitment event and it was a huge success, with an even bigger turn out than last year – in fact we may even have to look for somewhere bigger next time.’
Alison thanked everyone involved, especially the public, saying: ‘Without their support and willingness to consider a volunteering role, not only would this event not have been possible, but many of the vital services in our community simply wouldn’t be able to operate.
‘So many of the services provided on our island rely on the dedication and selflessness of hundreds of people in our community.
‘This is an opportunity for the public to find out more about the island’s charities and voluntary organisations.’
