THERE are currently 3,382 warrants issued for non-payment of tax, Tynwald was told.
Treasury Minister Allan Bell MHK, replying to a question from Peter Karran MHK (LibVan, Onchan), said his department's income tax division followed an established collection procedure with a reminder issued after 14 days of the debt being payable, followed by a final demand after a further fortnight.
If payment is not made within 14 days of the final demand, a warrant is issued to the coroner to pursue the debt.
In the year to March 31, 2009, 24,383 reminders, 19,056 final demands and 1,981 warrants were issued, said Mr Bell.
