KIERAN McCanney is within a handful of points of claiming a record eighth Centre motocross title after winning the penultimate round of the 2003 series at Peveril Club's Knock Froy on Sunday.
Riding a brand new out of the crate '04 YZ250 Yamaha he grabbed the hole-shot in each of the three motos and was never seriously threatened.
Likewise, his elder brother John McCanney took second in all three ahead of yet another 250 Yamaha ridden
by Mark Lund.
With just the one round remaining at Kimmeragh in a fortnight's time, Kieran has a tally of 1,463 points to John's 1,448. If Kieran was to hit problems in that event and fail to score John could take what would also be his eighth title with two wins and a second.
There was a close contest for the minor placings in the lower order of the top six between Gordon Rice, Paul Smyth, Mark Barker and teenager William Keenan, the latter out for the first time on a brand new 200 KTM.
