DESPITE being more than halfway through the season the debutants continue to come thick and fast in the latest Isle of Man Newspapers' Team of the Week.
No fewer than six first-timers make the nation's favourite hypothetical XI after impressing Eric Clague's revered ratings panel in Saturday's Sure Mobile Premier League games.

Claiming the TotW's coveted number one shirt is St John's keeper Andy Dooley who impressed as Lee Dixon and Sam Kenny's side scored a remarkable 3-2 win over Peel at the weekend.

In front of the former Johnners' player-manager is an imposing-looking three-man defence that includes another one of those earning their first TotW stripes of the season.

Michael Baker (Rushen) and Olly Theobald (Laxey) make up the side's rearguard along with former junior Island international Chris Cannell (Corinthians) who has been at studying away at university for the majority of the campaign.

Cannell isn't the TotW's only academic — Ant Moore made a timely return from his studies in America to score two goals in St John's derby day heroics at Douglas Road. Moore is joined in the midfield third by St George's duo Lee Bass and Neil Brogan and Laxey maestro Jim Travers.

Bass and Brogan were in dominant form as a lacklustre Gymns were brushed aside 3-0 at Glencrutchery Road, while Travers makes his fourth TotW appearance of the term having impressed in the Miners' 3-0 victory over Castletown.

Up front the TotW selectors were spoilt for choice. Laxey's Ashley Webster and St George's Calum Morrissey narrowly miss out, the attacking berths in the line-up instead going to Ryan Fairclough (Ramsey), Chris Wilson (Union Mills) and Calum Gallagher (St John's).

Fairclough and Wilson both grabbed two goals apiece in their respective sides' battle in the north, while Gallagher put in a top performance against his old club Peel to garner him a first TotW spot of the season.

This week's refereeing honours go to Alan Cowin for a third time this season. The level five official impressed in the middle during Ramsey's 3-2 win over Union Mills at Ballacloan.

Today's Vote

Civil servants are to get a lump sum payment of £200 after a union successfully took this year's pay freeze to arbitration. But government claims it could cause job losses. Is it the right decision?
Yes. It is only fair and the £450,000 cost is not that significant.
No. There are plenty of other things that money could go to and what about those with pay freezes in the private sector.
Don't know. It's only fair if you're not one of those who loses their job as a result.
